This species is native to the Bokkeveld mountains from near Nieuwoudtville in the west to Calvinia in the east, and Loeriesfontein in the north to the Tanqua Karoo in the south. These plants have leaves that are more elliptical, broader than the linear leaves of the form in the north of the range. We offer offsets of our strain JES #368, which is particularly vigorous and fast growing, even forming offsets. Pink to rose flowers in a small umbel. In leaf ca. September - April in the Northern Hemisphere, and blooming ca. Sept.-Oct. We grow this in our standard bulb mix, which is quite gritty. Best to ship in June and July.

- Haemanthus coccineus

Tender, so grow in a frost-free location in cold weather.
This is a typical winter-growing bulb. The flowers appear in September-October, just before the leaves. The firey red inflorescence is one of the largest of the Haemanthus, 2 to 3 inches across. Best to ship in June and July.

- Haemanthus humilis humilis
This is a late summer through early winter growing bulb. Native to the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa. It blooms in July with a large pink umbel of small flowers. The two large leaves are nearly round, tend to be slightly hairy, and eventually relax to lie flat on the ground. This form is much easier to grow than its close relatives, H. humilis hirsutus. and H. carneus. Best to ship in late spring.

- Haemanthus lanceifolius
Tender, so grow in a frost-free location in cold weather. H. lanceifolius is a winter-growing plant native to a small area in the lowlands of Namaqualand in South Africa. This region receives about 6 inches of rainfall per year, all in the winter. The bulb grows in loose sandy soil or in very rocky soils. The umbel is white fading to pink. In leaf ca. September - April in the Northern Hemisphere, and blooming ca. Sept.-Oct. We grow this in our standard bulb mix, which is quite gritty. Best to ship in June and July.

- Cyrtanthus [elatus X montanus]
This hybrid has 70-mm (2 ¾") flaring flowers atop a 40 to 50 cm (16 to 20 in.) scape. The actual flower color is a bright brick-red, brighter than this image shows but not so bright as the large image shows it. Foliage is nearly evergreen. Tender, so store in a bright, frost-free location in cold weather. 2-yr old offsets, close to bloom size.
