For Exporting and Importing Plants

AUSTRALIA

All plants, bulbs, and seeds are subject to inspection by AQIS. Correct identifications of all matierials with the botanical names, including both Genus and species names, are required.

Seeds in small quantities do not require a Phytosanitary Certificate.

The nature of the materials must be stated clearly: "Clivia seed"

List the botanical names (Genus and species) for each variety of plant only on the individual seed packets.

For hybrids, label the packets e.g.,

"Clivia 1 = 'Vico Yellow' X 'Sir John Thuron'"

Plants and bulbs imported into Australia must undergo a period of quarantine in a facility approved by AQIS. In AQIS's own greenhouses, the fees are Aus$400 for the first plant and a fee of ca. Aus$10-15 per additional plant or bulb.

It has been pointed out that when one imports large quantities of plants, bulbs or seeds into Australia, shipments in excess of Aus$400.00 are subject to VAT.

When shipping by international express services such FedEx or DHL, special handling charges may apply for taking shipments through Customs. Postal packages sent airmail are not subject to these fees

An import permit is required for all plants, bulbs, and seeds.

Phytosanitary certificates will be required for all plants and bulbs. Correct identifications of all matierials with the botanical names, including both Genus and species names, are required.

UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

An import permit is not required for importing small quantities of "bulbs" and Clivia are classified as "bulbs" by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Plant Protection and Quarantine (PPQ) Service unless you are importing in commercial quantities. Commercial (large) shipments will always need to have import permits.
