Starting Clivia Seeds in Arid Climates

Part 4

Planting the Seeds

Hi All Happy Growers,

I have had many private e-mails asking me to explain my planting method. So, here we go!

1) Wet soil prepared
2) There are 22 seeds set out neatly in a 17.5 cm / 7 inch pot so there is enough room and I won`t transplant them. This saves a bit of extra work.
3) Stone chips, or gravel chips being added to prevent seeds rolling around.
4) Completed stone chips, just wetted, makes nice pic, also contains the Sporekill.
5) Micropores on seeds marked with green fibre pen, to show relation to soil.
6) Stone chips added to seeds, pores still visible. I think we will track this pot, with a weekly progress report.
7) Details on side of pot V74-00, planted 4/01/02, yellow seed.
8) Into plastic freezer bag + little extra water down side.
9) As soon as bag being closed, condensation already shows on inside of plastic.
10) Closure with rusty clothes peg, my wife will kill me (and clivias) if I take her new pegs.
11) After 10 minutes more condensation, small hothouse created in bag.
12) This is hopefully what we will find after a few weeks, I have to make neat holes and create law and order amongst these roots, although they were planted just as neatly.
