Shields' Winter Bulbs

Androcymbium europaeum (c) Copyroght by Shields Gardens Ltd.  All rights reserved. Androcymbium are an Old World genus. This species is Androcymbium europaeum from the Meditarranean region and blooms in autumn or early winter.
Androcymbium pulchrum is native to the winter-rainfall region of South Africa. It is characterized by its reddish bracts surrounding the flowers.
Cryptostephanus vansonii is a close relative of the genus Clivia. This species is just about the only one in cultivation, although C. haemanthoides is sometimes seen. C. vansonii has small white flowers with a pink tint to them. The plants themselves are small even when mature, usually no more than 10 to 15 inches tall and are evergreen in cultivation.
